New to the world of aptasia. Never had to deal with it before. Is this the common aptasia or a Florida Nem hitchhiker? Been growing for 1-2 months and haven’t found anymore. Should I nuke it or let it be? Showed up a week after a CUC order. Can it hitchhike on a snail?

Looks like aptasia. You can inject it with boiling water, Kalkwasser paste or lemon juice.

I use boiling water as it kills all the pieces. I have a large plastic syringe I put the entire contents on the aptasia slowly and boil that thing dead.
I have a perfect syringe that came with F aptasia from the BRS Black Friday giveaway. Will give it a try today, thanks

Or you can just use the F Aptasia, which works great.

If it's possible to remove the piece and treat, that would be the best intervention ime.

I’ve heard mixed reviews on it? Some say they thought it caused the aptasia to release spores and spread?
How would they know it released spores? I doubt that it’s visible, and any other aptasia could have already been there. Why wouldn’t it release spores when you try to hit it with hot water? I’ve used F Aptasia and it works great IMO.

Options:
Treat it in the tank and hope it doesn't drop offspring in a final bid for survival.

Remove the entire rock and treat it so that you nuke it all in one go.

Remove the entire rock and put it in a cool pico. A "jail" tank as a desk pet is highly under-rated. This is actually the only "good" use of those horrible tiny AIO "betta" tanks.

I have used almost everything over the years. What I have found is that any piece of an aptasia can possibly regenerate into another individual. With kalk paste, aptasia x and the like you have to get them to ingest it or completely cover them with it and get it to remain in place for a few moments. By using a large syringe of boiling water I can literally cook the entire animal rendering every part of it inert. Most of the time they bury their foot deep in a hole. By pumping boiling water into the hole you can "reach" every part and succesfully kill it. Ive not used f-aptasia but the others will not kill it deep in a hole most times.

And then add some berghia and let them go to town - you’ll probably end up with more than you started with, which you can sell for a small profit!

I wish I could! Would be expensive wrasse food.
I’ve heard they aren’t tasty due to what they eat! Haven’t tried it myself though. Also the releasing spores when getting killed thing is apparently a myth, but I feel like I’ve seen it happen. They just spread very easily and usually if you have one you have many.
What kind of wrasse do you have? Mine leave peppermint shrimp alone thus far. Release shrimp into system at night while fish are sleeping.

Yeah unfortunately I think they’re one of the worst offenders for eating inverts of the Haliochoeres. I do still think the nudibranchs could be ok.
I’d personally start with trying to feed it some f Aiptasia really good with flow off for 30m. Can also spot feed corals while you’re doing it. That’s what I’ve done in the past. I just live with Aiptasia in the long run and try to control in display not eliminate. Honestly they aren’t that big of a deal for me.

I got kalk paste on one of my Millepora last night as you inspired me to knock my display Aiptasia population down! Will report how the tank is doing today after treatment last night! I also did a heavy coral feed when I did it since the pumps were already off. I only left the pumps off 10-15 minutes.

I personally uses Joe's Juice, and it works wonders.
joes juice is just kalk paste, I reuse the little container and make more. I have also found a gavage syringe we got to assist in nipple acceptance with baby and it works wonders. Has a curved tip!

Glad I inspired you 😅 I’ve been working a ton this week so haven’t had time. Hopefully this weekend I can blast him. Still unsure where it came from? Had to of been cuc order before last 😡 everything’s been through QT in the system so beyond me. But sure why not add on another issue with my tank 😑
