So now the real questions
The prime 16hd reef looks nice, what is the point of the sol though? Isn’t it just less light options?
And should I just jump on the smaller old version hydra, I can’t imagine a 20long tank would benefit from 2 pucks vs one with similar spread..
deff want to get the newer leds though, the new features seem nice and it’s the same price as the old models. Noice!
Anyone with the current prime hd know if it’s worth getting the new version or is the old primeHD worth that sweet sweet 20% off

Sorry I am late to the party but I am planning to set up a little 10 gallon mushroom waterfall tank and was looking at getting the sol but since I saw the price I will probably just grab an old prime on sale. I have been using the old one for about 8 months and it’s really a kick butt light. I would use it on a 20 long as long as I wasn’t planning on doing sps from end to end. The spread would be a little lacking toward the ends but would be perfect for softies on the end imo.

To clue you I on what I do at a FRACTION of the cost of AI is...I buy Chinese black boxes off eBay that come with the 3watt diodes

These diodes EASILY pop off with a soldering iron tip.

You then goes out to eBay and buy whatever NM wavelength you want. Many vendors are from China but the diodes are EpiStars or smthg of super high quality. You can get Qty10 shipped to you for about a $1/diode!!! Inexpensive big time.

You can do a combo layout of 400, 420, 440, 460, 480, 500 nm wavelengths, totally customizable !!!

My Chinese black boxes are heavy on 420nm and supported with 400s, 440s and 480s.

Resoldering to these Chinese black box circuit boards are sooooooo easy. You can solder these in backwards and neither the diode or the board gets damaged. It's so easy. Idiotproof

Doh, so the 22 x HD26 lights I have not even got to use yet are now obsolete. No 420? I like 420. Probably my favourite slice of the spectrum. Only superseded by 430!
