Hello!

I’ve been using aquaforest salt for about a year now and I wanted to love it but I’ve been getting low parameters.

I mix my salt to 1.026 salinity and tested it with my refractometer and I also calibrated it. My friend also checked my salinity for me and it matched.

After tested my freshly mix water , I get parameter in the range of 33ppt

-Am mixing it wrong?

Looks like you are doing everything right. I also use Aquaforest. I get 33-34ppt. I personally wouldn’t panic if everything in your tank looks happy no need to fix something that isn’t broken…

I don't understand. Specific gravity (you say 1.026) and salinity (33 ppt) are measuring the same thing, but cannot both be accurate, but are not all that far apart based on hobby equipment error ranges.

How are you measuring these?

FWIW, A salinity of 33 ppt corresponds to a specific gravity of about 1.0249.

Is there something else that is off?

I think he’s saying parameters match t what the box says for the LPS “33ppm” they advise when he mixes it to the 35 ppm he’s having low alk low calcium etc vs what the box says it should be . Have you checked the batch online ???

Assuming that is the case, which could be for all sorts of reasons including test error, salinity inaccuracy, or batch differences, what values of parameters are you getting? How are you measuring salinity?

This is correct and I checked with the batch online and it says when mixed with a salinity of 1.026 I should have an alk of 8.4 but I’m getting 7.4 with Hanna checker and salifert. My Cal and Mag also reads low

Batch says I should get an alk of 8.4 when measuring a salinity of 1.026. I used a refractometer that I calibrated. I also had a friend check for me. I test my alk with Hanna checker and salifert.

Yes everything in my tank is looking great but I hate that I have to dose to get to my desired parameters when doing a water change .

That doesn't seem like a big variation to me, and most hobby test kits and salinity measuring devices, as well as the expect variability of a salt mix could each or all contribute to these differences.
