Hi there,
Long time lurker, first time poster :).
I'm looking for some flow advice for my tank. I have an AquaOne AquaReef 300 tank which is about 5 years old with Fish Only, Live Rock and about 1 inch of crushed coral sand bed. Ever since I have had the tank I have faced a constant battle with dead spots on either side of the box in the middle of the display that hides the return pipe and the overflow etc. It makes keeping the sand looking nice and clean a royal pain in the butt lol.
In terms of flow in the tank, I have got a MaxSpect Gyre XF330 on the left hand wall running at about 20% constant flow in one direction blowing across the surface of the water. Then, 2 x Hygger 8w Wavemakers on the back walls either side of centre boxing I mentioned above running at about 50%.
I've also swapped out the stock single return flow for a split return and have got both outlets of that kind of turned round either side of the boxing and pointing down towards the sand. That doesn't seem to make any difference.
I had thought about putting the Hyggers on either side wall a bit lower down towards the back, or at least pointing towards the back of the tank to try and keep the muck up in the water column. I am not a huge fan of having loads of equipment on show though, so would like to avoid this if possible (but if needs to happen, it needs to happen). I've got some extra flow capacity available in both Hyggers and the Gyre to try and solve this.
I have also got a Valentini Puffer in the tank too and he likes eating up my cleanup crew so I've only got a single lonely snail that he's left alone in the tank at the moment, so adding more isn't really going to be option unless I rehome him :(.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
