And I was worried about 1/64” of unevenness in my base. I would definitely use a good wood epoxy and a bow of screws because basically the screws will be the supporter. There is a shear surface between the wood pieces and the shear resistance of the screws is a big factor especially on 1000# plus

I actually spoke to the builder and he said as long as the bottom glass is on the stand the back or front glass does not matter. the red sea's front glass over hangs and when you close the doors it makes the tank flush. At this point i am not going to touch it. I don't feel 6mm thats sticking out will do anything to the stability of the tank.

I just put together my Red Sea reefer 425 and it hangs over (complete bottom is supported) makes me think you may be ok.....but many factors play in....glass thickness, material that the tank is sitting on, evenness, etc. I’d worry with a homemade stand.
