I'm building a new stand for my 40 breeder and 20 sump for my bedroom and I'm worried about weight. anyone know of a simple to understand chart that would help. The footprint is 2ft X 4ft and should be roughly 750 to 800 lbs when finished.

Are concerned about the weight for the floor? If your floor can’t hold a 40g, sump and stand, it’s probably time to move. Unless hou carve the stand from solid marble, you’ll probably be fine

Your suggestion of 750-800 pounds seems like a reasonable estimate of the expected weight (500 pounds of water plus tank, sump, aquascaping, and equipment). Are you concerned about the stand or the floor?

I figure

50 x 8.6 =430 saltwater
100 rock and substrate
roughly 200 for the stand it's a beefed-up 2 x 6 stand

730.... and then whatever odds and ends. and i want to know the floor can support it.

Your floor can support it, if not then you have bigger problems. To ease your mind position it across a couple joists. Also that stand is absurdly overbuilt.

If your stand weighs 200 pounds for a 40 breeder its WAY over built. A normal stand for a 75 gallon tank weighs less than that. Hell my stand for my 300 gallon display isnt 200 pounds! Might be close but its also holding 260 gallons more of water.
Also it wont be a full 40 gallons of water due to rock displacement.
Also your 40 breeder is only going to set on the outside edge. So all the wood framing on the top and on the inside of the uprights is absolutely a waste it terms of holding the weight of the tank. Unless its a tank that is flat with no trim on it.
Your stand would hold my 300 gallon tank if it had a larger footprint! Using caution is one thing but.........

The key is not whether it can support it, but more how much it will bow. This depends on where the tank is in relation to the floor joist ends and wall support. In the middle of a long span = more floor bow. On a load bearing or outside wall and there is more underlying support. I have seen a larger tank drop the floor one inch on an end as seen by the gap on the baseboard and unlevel tank after filled.

The 200 for the stand was for the stand and all the Misc inside, lighting, ATO water, dosing pump ect,
