Are Clarion angels available anymore ?

Bali Aquarich has bred them in some numbers, but whether wild or captive bred, they are very expensive and not worth the price. They grow to be kind of drab and not very impressive, plus Holacanthus as a whole tend to be on the aggressive side for angels. I’d look into a different angel if I were you. Are there any other ones you’d consider?

At one point I had considered a captive bred one, but after seeing pictures of it as an adult I just couldn’t be bothered.

Also, you should ask where they were collected. The ones collected in their main range along the Sea of Cortez may need cooler temperatures than ones collected further down the Mexican / Central American coast. Same problem with the BSJF. Many don’t realize Rosenblatti are a subtropical species that need cooler water than the average reef tank.

I’d rather get a Blue Line or if you’re willing to pay, a Conspic from Poma Labs. Captive bred AND cheaper.

Either way, there’s better angels out there.

They are probably available unless they’re a Hawaiian endemic, you just have to look in the right places. As above they’re rather drab as adults however they hold a lot of one colour that very few easy to keep fish hold, Orange. I wouldn’t say holacanthus are truly aggressive (I’d have to say that’s the pomacanthus genus with the P. paru and P. arcuatus), this specific species arent as aggressive as say a Holacanthus passer or Holacanthus burmudensis/cilliaris.
