Dear Sirs:
Guangzhou Maiguang Electronic Science Technology Co., Ltd., d.b.a. Maxspect (hereinafter “Maxspect”) is the owner of a utility patent application, which includes claim coverage directed to a cross-flow wave making pump. As a reference, enclosed is U.S. Patent Application Publication No. US 2015/0292507 A1.

I note from two articles in ReefBuilders.com that industry intelligence indicates that Jebao Co., Ltd. or related entities have designed and may offer a Jecod CP-45, a Jecod CP-25, or other related equipment which is described and illustrated as a “Cross-Flow Wave Pump”. As a reference, enclosed are copies of the two articles as well as a portion of the website at the aboveidentified URL. This equipment may ultimately infringe one or more claims of the pending patent application of the above-identified U.S. patent application publication. Under the provisional rights provisions added to the Patent Act in 1999, a claimant can recover damages (after the patent issues) if it gives notice to the target of the claims after the pending application is published. See, 35 USC 154(d).

At this time, Maxspect would be pleased to discuss various options to provide you with the ability to avoid liability for infringement under provisional rights provisions related to the above-identified patent application. If you are of the opinion that you do not need to take any action at this time with Maxspect, it would be helpful if you could give us some insight into your reasons. Infringement may occur through making, using, or selling a product in conflict with the claims of the above-identified patent application publication. Maxspect may elect to seek damages from one or both of sellers or manufacturers of infringing products.

Please contact me at your earliest convenience to address this matter.

If I was Maxspect, Tunze or Ecotech I would go a step further and if a qualified Dealer from either Maxspect, Tunze or Ecotech sells the knockoffs they should be dropped as a dealer of their products.
Jeabo can bring their own product on the market but if they do so not a whole lot of ppl would buy them.

Maybe you right, but I think all jeabo's are priced to low same as many other Chinese stuff.
Lets agree on this that all powerheads no matter what brand, make or model should be one price $169.90 for small, $293.96 for medium and $49.95 for large.

I believe that the equipment in this hobby is just like any other. Be it a hobby, tool, house product. There is always bigger and better, but the mainstay has been around and lasted. Something that stands the test of time.

As with any tool, IMO, you get what you pay for. 40 dollar pump that pushes 500gph in a wave mode with feed mode and not sensor, it's gotta be high dollar! It's gotta last FOREVER. When the six month warranty is up and it finally take a dump, you run and buy another. Then again. Then again, all because they are cheaper. By the time you bought two, three, four of these pumps you could have had a tried and true long lasting version for the same money.

That's what I look at and for. When something new comes out I hardly ever jump on the bandwagon. Sure I may be a year or so behind, but I known if something will last.

Eh, my jebao wps have been running since February 2014. I am hoping for them to crap out, so I can get the rw series..

Does it perform as you need it to? Can you get it repaired or get parts for it relatively easy? I can buy a Yeti cooler for $400.00 it will keep ice for 5 or 6 days, it can withstand a bear attack, it is heavy and bulky. I can get a knockoff for $289.00 and still look cool and sacrifice some of the workmanship. Or I can just realize that I am a recreational fisherman that goes out about 10 -15 times a year for 4-6 hours at a time and get a $59.00 Igloo. All these products have their place.

Jebao are just what was mentioned, and for the record I have one in my frag tank. Think about the gyre. How many have been taken out by a piece of sand, or put together wrong cause, apparently ask don't own one, they are hard to get back together. How many are for sale already?

Not saying there aren't some that will and do last. Gyre jabeo whatever. Not saying ecotech can't and wont fail, but the bigger companies have the past relationships and warrantys to back their price up.

That's where I am too. I have two in my tank but didn't know the issue when I bought them. I'm going to get the Mp40 I've had my eye on for years once my bonus comes in.

If you make something truly novel, and high tech, then the copycats will not come.

The Gyre was not all that novel and high tech, so it gets copied.

The Vortech still has Zero copycats.

We see it in the bike industry all the time, and to a certain extent, you just have to accept that China is going to rip you off, you just make your stuff higher quality or higher tech and hope that consumers care or can tell the difference. My experience, consumers don't care or can't tell the difference, the dollar reigns supreme.

Henry Ford did not make the first car, not even the first American car Carl Benz can claim that first automobile produced trophy in like 1895 or so. Henry Ford revolutionize automaking by using a moving assembly line and interchangeable parts.

I stand corrected as to the first automaker. Thank you for the heads up. My point, even with mr Benz the first producer of the automobile not withstanding, still stands.
