Look at the recycle label stamp on the bottom. The code will tell you what class of plastic it is.

That can is fine as far as safety of the polyethylene, but I'd spend the couple bucks more and get the Brute....thicker walls and will hold up better. As far as size, they carry a number of different sizes, including a 20 gallon Brute.
