I don't really enjoy fragging as much as I used to. Takes my almost a day once a month and starting to feel like a job. I sell a few online and it helps to defray some of the costs of my hobby. I sell a good bit cheaper that the commercial guys and I offer free FedEx Overnight shipping which is not cheap. Fragging and selling is a good thing as it allows me to share my corals with others and my hobby doesn't cost me anything.

But, my advice to people who want to frag and sell: Don't think you're going to make money!

This are some pics of my 50 gallon frag tank.

Today let's talk fragging coral and frag systems!

If you're new to this and don't know what fragging is well "fragging" a coral is the slang term for propagating a coral. Basically cutting it in half or pieces in order for each piece to grow into it's own colony. That's the revhtree definition!

I don't necessarily LIKE fragging coral myself but I do like populating my frag tank with a bunch of frags. LOL! But then again I HATE to ship coral but if it involves a good trade then I'll go the extra mile! HA! :)

Anyway let me ask you a few questions and then post a photo of your frag system!

1. Have you ever fragged your own corals?

2. Do you enjoy fragging corals and why or why not?

3. What size frag system do you have?

4. Do you have a photo of your frag system? Please post it!

I’ll play too, since I’m a fragger at my work(public aquarium) :)

1. Yes. Lots of corals. Thousands probably o_O

2. I enjoy frags that survives and grow up to nice new colonies. I don’t enjoy fragging/trying to attach soft corals. I don’t like fragging and gluing the most slimy Acroporas.
But overall it’s the satisfaction seeing lots of frags doing well and growing that’s fun with fragging. And to have a smorgasbord of frags ready when setting up a new tank.

3.
At the moment all we have is kind of frag tanks. We’re rebuilding our public aquaria and only have a small temporary aquarium going. That means all our old reef tanks were taken down and all corals were moved into temporary tanks. Now the goal is to propagate as much corals as possible to be able to get a good start when filling our new tanks in a year (or two.. who knows these days..).
Our total volume at the moment is about 9000 litres. Divided into 12 tanks.

4.
Here are some pictures. This temporary aquarium is not open to visitors, so it’s not that fancy.. More compact living :D

Super jealous with what I see on here. I don't frag for the same reason I don't run a kitchen anymore. It just takes all the love out of it when you turn it into a business or get to serious. I would love to have a separate frag tank and see what I can do but I would wind up hooking everyone up and not even being able to break even...that's the same reason I don't sell drugs either;). No matter what excuse I come up with I know with the size house I have I can not expand my reefing world. I just don't want to go there with the wife. In 16 years I have learned to pick my battles and yes it sucks but I would have to seriously have to consolidate my hobbies and I like shooting and RC's to much too. Maybe someday because this has given me some great ideas

I've never had a dedicated frag tank, but always run a dedicated frag space in my sump instead of a fuge.

When I reset up my RS reefer, I am thinking of buying some legit frag racks from Building and Obsession, or a full blown frag tank tied into the main system. I have no desire to run 2 systems at the moment.

Ok, I'll play this too. I made videos on my two frag tanks. The Hybrid Frag Tank series is a 3 parter. Just watch Pt 3 if you want to see it completed. The Mermaid Island frag tank has been up for over 4 years. I got real tired of cleaning grid panels and tried something more aesthetically pleasing. I found over time that it wasn't so great for smaller frags but great for the big ones. So then I got the hybrid unit. Thanks for watching!
