Ah the birds are singing, bees are buzzing, the flowers are blooming and the trees are refreshing their foliage! IT'S SPRING! With spring comes warmer temps, not cold or hot, which is better for having livestock shipped to your house but it's also perfect for getting yourself outside the house to enjoy the season. The spring time could be more, equal or less reefing depending! So what about for you? Let's talk about it!

1. Are you reefing more, less or the same in the spring?

2. What type of factors come into play for you and reefing during the spring time?

Planning a ~30-50g frag/invert Qt system.

The more sunny on weekends, the more difficult it is to do maintenance. ...

My tanks are literally on cruise control, but I allocate an hour or two on Sunday AM for maintenance (ATO top offs, testing params, cleaning skimmer cups & ATO sensors) I also do a monthly carbon replacement, and powerhead cleaning, again on Sunday.

Slightly more.

2. What type of factors come into play for you and reefing during the spring time?
The longer and warmer days are conducive to spending more time at the LFS and interacting with the tank. I also put in a garden. Today I'm hoping for rain so I collected sea water yesterday to avoid the flush.

Well, I’m buying more coral these days (boredom, I have more money due to being able to sell my coral now, I’m more confident in my abilities) but I’m actually reefing less.

Due to going back to physical school, work, and trying to find a college to go to, my schedule is really tight now. I still get 2-3 hours in for the tank every day but it’s nothing like the 8+ hours I was pulling during the summer and early school year.

Everything’s still happy and healthy so I’m sure they don’t mind me gone more often, but the fish sure do act like I’ve abandoned them when I come home. I should go give them a little treat right now actually, maybe some minced tuna or salmon today :)

I am for sure putting a lot more into it, but only because my tank is maturing and I am able to add corals! Happy Spring reefing everyone!

Definitely more this spring setting up a large build and will be putting a lot of work into it! But in previous years I spend the same amount of time with the tank that I do other parts of the year.

More, much more. I stetted up a new Waterbox 130.4 system and in the first month my fish contracted Velvet and unfortunately most of them died, the rest are quarantined. So while I wait three or four months for the velvet's dinoflagellates parasites to die I am working hard on my corals. that is keeping me highly motivated towards the hobby. Before velvet I was more into fish that corals.

FINALLY! Spring cleaning on the sumps/mechanicals. Definitely able (and wanting) to do more with my tanks when its nicer out. Due to my set up's, my systems are easier to work on, especially water changes when I can drain right down the drive way.

Will be starting to create a new reef scape for my Redsea 90 gallon. Plan is to break up new dryrock and create that "impossibile " scape. Saw on BRS and have wanted to do for over a year. Will be more comfortable doing in the garage when its not 40°f out there. Just rescaped on my 220g and it was a nightmare in the cold. But she's done!

I'm only reefing less because I am in the middle of an expensive kitchen remodel. Won't belong and I'll be right back at it!
