Can't say I've been assaulted by clam. However one time when I was rearranging the rock to make more room for some larger SPS colonies, I stirred up a lot of detritus which settle on my Gigas clam. So I decided to dust it off by waving water on it. While I was waving my hand over the clam, the clam twitched and the edge of the shell opened up my middle finger. It was a pretty severe slice, I used super glue and butterfly bandages to seal it up. I now have a new respect for how sharp the edge of a clam can be. I wish I had a picture of the cut and the red tank it produced.....

Knock on wood! I've been cut so many times in more than 20 years of reefing, and never once have I had an infection of any kind. I know several of my friends haven't been so lucky.

I have been lucky so far but my clam does like to soak me when I move him out of the tank and I swear he knows the perfect time with a perfect aim. He's only about 7" and shoots about 2 feet of water. When I move him I have to make sure the lights are far away or I should say moving him in the tank is fine just if I take him out of the tank its the problem. He's attached to a piece of shelf rock not much bigger than him that has bubble algae on it and that's why I take him out some time to clean off bubble algae.
