Has anyone tested the ATI PAR estimate data for the Straton X we get on the Reef pilot app? If so how accurate is it ?

I am looking to get an idea if there’s any difference with an actual PAR meter.

Thanks!

I have tested. I don’t remember. I’ll check again this weekend and get back to you. I have an apogee and straton x’s

I’d treat the Reef Pilot PAR estimate as a good reference point, but I wouldn’t rely on it as a replacement for a PAR meter. Actual readings can vary with mounting height, tank depth, rockwork, and light settings. A meter is still the best way to verify what the corals are actually receiving.

I recently decided to measure my PAR again because I didn’t really trust the estimates. When I measured I was shocked how much PAR I’ve been blasting my poor corals with. I can do another measurement today to see how accurate the new app is (I updated yesterday) , but I would say its a pretty good estimate.

What is the max % intensity that you have yours set to and for how long?

Consider renting a PAR meter. It's worth it IMO to really get a chance to dial in your lights and coral placement. I happen to own one because I use it for house plants too, but when installing new lights, I recommend renting one or borrowing one from a LFS or reef club.

I just measured PAR again. The PAR estimates in the updated reef pilot app are absolutely spot-on. But, there's one huge caveat. It does not take multiple fixtures into account. Because I have three fixtures on a 5ft tank I have significant overlap and apparently my real PAR is around 280-300 PAR on the sandbed instead of 120. I'll be submitting feedback to ATI about this.
