ATO Tunze 3155 vs v3

Hi everyone. What’s you’re thoughts on the old model of 3155 vs the new osmolator 3 for a ATO for a 50 gallon AIO?

From what I’ve read, 3155 is the best, has worked for years for many people, thought it is loud.

For the new Osmolator 3, I’ve read mixed reviews. It doesn’t have the physical floating nob, some have said it has malfunctioned, although it is a lot quieter.

Which one do you think I should purchase?

I was face with the same question when I setup the latest tank. Ultimately I decided to go with the 3155 as I knew its reliability having ran one on my other tank for over 5 years. It’s loud but offers a piece of mind especially for the function it does so I don’t mind the noise.

Thank you for the reply! Yes anyone who has experience with both please do let us know. I’m thinking of going with the 3155, but if people have used the v3 since it was released a few years ago without issue, then a quieter/stronger pump sounds like a good option.

I ran 3155's for years. The controller got wet and I replaced it with the new Tunze 3. I now run 4 of them on 4 systems. New system will also be the new.
5 year warranty and no controller to worry about.
I prefer the new vs the old. The pump is better and the internal controller is sweet.
My old 3155 was 7 years old.
They are both good but the new is much better.
Check out their new ORCA if you have not heard of it. I will run one on my new 112. I run SeaSweep on my 150.

Since they came out. Around 1+ years. I have the nano version on my 15. 9.5 g's total water. About 7 months now and it's going strong on this nano.

The newest version is complete trash. I’ve already sent one back for warranty. Apparently if u run A UV sterilizer it will cause it to malfunction. So I have had to shut my uv down. Well it still continues to malfunction. Causing huge salinity swings and my sump to run dry. Any recommendations for an ATo that actually works? In the past Tunze was great, that’s just not the case anymore .

If you don't like the new get the old 3155. Mine was 8 years old when I got wet and it died.
I won't use another brand but I'm a Tunze guy from forever.

i upgrade to v3 for noise, liked it, still wrapped it in some vinyl tubinng though to quiet it up even more. really nice now.

I much prefer the new version over the old. Way quieter and I haven't had a single issue with the 3 or 3 Nano. A UV light near it can mess it up though

I have a large pentair 40w in the sump that goes over part of the ATO that the v3 is housed in. For me, no issues.

Spectrapure ATO is excellent as well. I prefer not need the pump submerged and the pressure sensing tubes are long enough the magnets are clear of the water. I like that for magnets that are typically out of sight. I ran their last gen ATO for three years without changing the peri tube with no issues. It also allows you to use your main RO reservoir and pull from across your home. Save space in the cabinet and no longer tote water. It’s also great for vacations if your RO reservoir is setup to auto fill when empty. I’ve been using their latest gen on 600g for the last year with no issues. I’d guess it tops off 40-50g a week, depending on the time of year. My only complaint is the lack of mounting options for the pump/controller.

I just bought the kamor ATO off Amazon. Let’s see what a cheapie can do vs the super expensive one. If it works that’s a win.

I have had zero issues with my Tunze osmolator 3. No issues with it, even with bare UV bulbs in the same sump chamber for a few weeks.

I am coming up on a year with my nano v3 and really havnt had any issues. The only thing I dont like is the light inside the unit does grow coraline so you have to clean it off every few months

I am still confused. 3155 and Osmolator 3 are the same price here . I am afraid of not having the float redundancy

The Osmolator 3 has a temp sensor for redundancy and it works perfectly IME. The float switch was far more prone to errors if they got dirty and weren’t maintained. That was rare though

Both systems have been bulletproof for me but the new one is definitely an upgrade. The new pump being silent is worth it alone
