16 is junk and even if this new regulation effected me, I still would not use 16. :)

It doesn't say anything about weld on #16. If 3 and 4 are discontinued just use 16.

It has its place. 16 certainly is not easy to use on small pieces. And it does not wick at all.

16 isn't supposed to wick. it's a junk filler that should never be used for water applications.

Is trichloroethane less regulated than trichloroethylene? If so it seems like they can quickly revamp their product for consumers. We use them both as solvents pretty interchangeably.

Sorry, got that backwards. My officemate reminded me it was the ethane that we were phasing out in favor of the ethylene because of ozone concerns, not toxicity. They work about the same and are similarly toxic.

So apparently scigrip 3 and 4 are supposed to be pulled from online sales. Physical retail sales are OK per the guidelines on the press release.

The changes per the release are somewhat temporary pending further discussion between ips and the epa. worst case scenario, no more scigrip 3 and 4.

If anyone knows of online retailers who are still selling scigrip 3/4, or retail locations selling to consumers, please pm me the names and locations. Thanks.

Yeah I called the guy too, he must be getting inundated, he called back and left me a message, I returned it, no return though.

This is a bummer. Are there any viable alternatives?
Fortunately, TCE is not required at all for acrylic bonding. So straight Methylene Chloride works just fine - and that's not going to get banned, it's an industrial solvent and is in many (thousands of) cleaning products.

So...I just bought some Weld-on 3 to repair a couple of baffle seams that look a little separated. IF this doesn't come for some reason, what should I look for as a replacement product? I will post a thread with pics before I start the process, but am trying to get the materials coming.
