ATTN: All FAVIA Collector's, HELP Needed

Some of my prized "collector pieces" have begun to, what looks like RTN. They are loosing flesh and you can see it flapping in the flow?

I've been observing there decline for about a week now. I have tested multiple times, and have done a couple water changes. After not moving them from light or flow for months I placed them all in lower flow areas with indirect lighting. I have dipped one or two, searching to see if that helps to no avail.

My parameters are on. Well actually uncertain as I have 3 different test kits all reading with varied inconsistencies. But that is another thread.

Are they any particular pests I should be aware of? Any preventative precautions recommended? Anyone with anything!?!

You add anything recently to the tank? I've had good luck doing iodine and revive dips when ever I have issues with my Favias. G'luck.

Favia are the first to freak out on me when I'm a slacker about KH/Ca dosing

You should get some new test kits and check your perameters again, especially ALK, Calc and Mag. My favias was gone bad once due to low alk adn calc.

What brand test kits do you have? I was still running Saliferts and tried some other brands last week (Elos and LaMotte) and was very surprised by the difference in the reading for Alk and Mag.

Maybe a frag of palys or two? Oh, and a Pylei wrasse from Cebu! Found another!

I have API, ELOS and Salifert. Ordered the Saliferts as Im a bit leery trusting ELOS and their inability to consistently fill their test kits. I was honestly blown away wide the testing results from the three.

I've read a few threads in the past year,where people are losing there LPS one by one from this stuff. I'm in the same boat myself. started in january and still going on. lost three corals going on four. bought new box of salt at the end january and one in may, instant ocean reef crystals from Dr F-S.. could there be something in the salt causing stress. looking for a common thread with you Reefer Rob. I switch to API activated carbon in january also. I just tested my water using API test kit. PH-8.2 KH-9 dkh. Cal-440. Po4-0.25. Nitrate-10ppm. I dip my sick corals in iodine every water change. it seems to help for a day or two then they start looking bad again. I wish i knew what this pathogen is and how to cure it. Sorry for more questions and no answer. I was thinking of adding an over sized UV sterilizer to my system. don't know if that will help but it can''t hurt at this point. Sorry again Reefer Rob. Only real good news is my Baby's Breath is morphing and adding color. Haven't seen one with a purple ring yet!!

I purposely separated the BB and elevated it to the second from top tier of a Blue Glow Frag Rack. I did that after a few months of low light and it turned dull. Now its really starting to shin and grow much faster.

All other favias were on bottom tier of the Blue Glow Frag Rack and have been for months. Tank is a 48x18x12 with a Tek 48" 6 bulb fixture. However I only light the inner four bulbs 6 hours a day, 12-14" inches from surface. Bulbs are 3 ATI Blue+ one GMan Actinic+.

Yeah, bump alk up to at least 8 if possible. Generally speaking if a large number of corals are showing this kind of rtn problem, doing a big water change is a good idea. Also, double-check that your temperature isn't getting too nuts during the hottest part of the day, it's summer and that explains a lot of the "unexplained" coral deaths this time of year.
