I have a 29 gallon tank in my room on the second floor, I am a couple days away from getting fish and I don’t know if another auto top off will arrive in time.

Problem: My dad doesn’t want an auto top off in his house because he thinks it’s gonna flood the entire second floor. I think it will be fine because they are designed to not overflow. The auto top off I got is from Useek and is linked below. Any solutions/arguments I should make?

It’s a valid concern. My auto Aqua looks similar, but has a shutoff feature if it ever runs for a duration 5X longer than the first time you plug it in. For a “dumb” unit, this is peace of mind.

Another option for you is to commit to a reservoir only large enough to cause a small spill. Outside of this, we are all at their mercy.

Look on the marketplace and find a used dosing pump, hook it up to a 5gal bucket or jug and set it to your daily evaporation. I have used a ecotech versa for years this way and have no worries of overflow on a second floor.

i had this concern too. i added a shut off float switch to the top of the tank as well to make sure it shuts off in case anything should malfunction. this is from autotopoff.com and is an added layer of protection. you either need the bracket to mount of you can do what i did and super glue a waterproof magnet to it

At 29g weekly evap would be about 3 gallons.
Limit you reservoir to say 5g.
The ATO has a secondary overflow shutoff.
You can plug to ATO into a multi timer allowing power for only 1 minute and hour.
Combined together, your floor is safe.
