Anybody have knowledge to what is on the topside of a snail foot, that is a round flat disk? Was watching a Babylonian snail cruise the substrate for food after a feeding, and was curious to what this was. Was thinking it is like a shield when fully retracted in its shell? I’ve seen this for years, but don’t exactly know what I’m seeing or it’s purpose.

It's called an operculum, and you're right about the purpose - they use it to close themselves into their shells, with the operculum essentially shutting the door behind them.
