I have not had a reef for 6 years but I miss it. So here it goes.
Background:
First tank Bio cube 32. This was a fun beginner tank started it from scratch had it going for about a year, no pictures. Had 2 clowns and a goby plus some zoas.
Second Tank: Red Sea Reefer 525- approx 130 gallons. This was my first time entering the sump world. But I did not really get the proper introduction per se. I bought this used off facebook fully stocked with coral (mostly LPS), anemones and fish (6 line, blue tang, clowns, mandarin, chromis, and a few others. This was a good size but we ended up moving and selling the tank.
The reason I say I did not get the proper sump introduction is because It came ready for me, I didn't decide filter media, skimmer, etc. The tank was in great condition and water levels were great. So I just stuck with whatever the previous owner had done.
I need Advice:
I am thinking a tank around 50 gallons would be great, it would allow a small stock of fish and a good stock of corals. And I have really been eyeing the lagoon series. They have two blemished on their website. The lagoon 50 AIO, and the lagoon 50 EXT. I really do not know if the 50 ext is worth the extra 700 dollars. I have not seen that many reviews on their sump, and it does not leave space for a refugium if I put a skimmer.
Personally do you all think it is worth it to get the sump either way, I guess I could upgrade the sump later on if need be.
The Goal:
To build this tank with my 7 year old baby sister. I would like to have a clown or two, plus a small schooling fish and a goby. I would like to have both SPS and LPS.
Questions:
Is the Lagoon 50 EXT worth the extra price tag?
Is there any other tanks I should be eyeing?
