can any one explain the true function of a UV sterilizer in SW Ich managment. got first Ich out break after moving tank 14 miles. no new Fish added. 120 gallon Fowlr. Went to LFS , bought UV sterilizer 25 watts ( underpowered I learned) Used Cupramine with it (dumb I learned) . 13 y/o Scopas Tang survived treatment but then later fasted for 2 weeks . He started eating week after I turned UV off. 6 30 % water changes later fish seemed ok, No Ich, Hanna checker 0.0- .01 ppm Cu in water. NH3 00 NH2 0 Nitrates too high at 60-80
Q 1. Should I restart UV sterilizer, Ie is there any preventative, proven prophylactic anti Ich value water flowing at 200 gph through it when was on.
Q2. no room for Chaeto in sump will dosing fritzyme turbo with h20 changes reduce nitrates to acceptable level so coral could be added 1year down the road if copper remains 0 ? Ive read some sa yes and some experts say no to coral question regarding long term leaching of Copper. Just curious as to the efficacy of this Nitrate reducer.

Looking forward to doing things right in the future

UV is often used for water clarification. To be effective for Ich, the dwell time needs to be higher than most aquarium sterilizers. I think there is an article(s) in the R2R articles section for more info.

Thank you both, any experience with Fritzyme, Turboclean? Effective? my Fish bioload is high , like I mentioned ammonia and Nitrites are under control (0) thanks to 150 lb LR in 120 gallon set up, started 2 X weekly H20 changes reduced feedings, would like to know if Nitrates formerly 160 ppm (FOWLR) can be effective kept at 20-40 with dosing this product and better Husbandry.
