Backflow restrictors for sump

Hello,

I was wondering why people don't use backflow restrictors in their sump plumbing if overflow is an issue?

Welcome! Glad you joined. I prefer internal plumbing to HOB (hang on back) so unless there is a catastrophic tank failure (which would be bigger issue than sump overflow), I don't worry about sump overflow. Agree with others earlier on this thread that backflow restrictors can be prone to failure with a little something sucked thru and therefore preventing seal. The only place I use backflow restrictor is on airline tubing over on my pod cultures' air lines going to airstones.

< EDIT: You are the only person I've heard of doing maintenance/replacement every two years on these - WAY TO GO!! >

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)
