Hello all:

As per usual in this hobby, once you think everything is sailing along smoothly, the poison arrows fall from the sky. We had a power outage in my neighborhood and my tank was down for about 8 hours. The tank is loaded with corals, fish and inverts. I lost my Yellow Tang, my Royal Gramma and a Wrasse. It's a Red Sea Reefer 300XL G2+. DT volume is 65 gallons and total system is 80 gallons. I am running all Red Sea equipment except for the lights which are 2 Ecotech Radion 15 G6's and a Reef Octopus skimmer. I see this question has been addressed in several threads but I'm looking for a specific piece of equipment that will:
A) Kick on as soon as the power shuts down
B) Run the return pump, the heater, the skimmer, the wavemakers and the lights
C) Will disconnect when main power is restored
D) Will stay in "standby" mode until needed
E) Will power the system for at least a day.

I have a 4500 watt gas generator but that will be used to power the house fridge and some lights. We haven't had a long outage in years but this last one was a sobering experience I don't want to repeat. Red Sea tech support was no help nor was my LFS who only had backups to Ecotech equipment. Am I asking for too much here or can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks all.

Generac whole house backup. Depends on the rest of your desired operation as to what size. I used a 14KW unit which ran on propane.
