I've had a 1200 gallon heated freshwater pond past 10 years and a 60 gallon snowflake eel tank the past 7 years. So I'm not a complete noob but close enough.

Long story short I impulse bough a bamboo shark egg. It's currently with my snowflakes and about 2 weeks from hatching.

I'll keep it in the 60 gallon a few months (if you gus agree the 16 inch snowflakes cant eat a 6 inch bamboo shark)

Then it must go into somthing larger.

I wish I had the space for a 96x30x30

But I dont

It was between a 96x24x24 (240 gallons)or the more expensive custom 72x30x30 (265 gallons)

I have decided on the 72x30x30 simply because I like the aesthetics better.

The footprint of the 96 inch is 16 sq ft and the foot print of the 72 inch is 15 sq ft

So basically a wash in size so aesthetics prevailed.

I am aware that half of all bamboo sharks fail to eat and die. If this happens I will order a already hatched and eating banded shark (bamboo)

Just the tank and beautiful mahogany red stand and canopy are costing me $5300 delivered (if I accept this offer)

However they tried to charge me 13k for the tank stand canopy live rock filtration yadda yadda yadda...

I want to give this 25-38 inch (once grown) little shark a nice home...but 13k???

No way!!!!!

I have no problem dropping 4-6k on a beautiful 240-300 gallon tank+stand+canopy

But no way in hell am I paying another 7k on plumbing and filtration sand live rocks ect.

So that's why I'm here ladies and gents.

I am but a mere sponge in your sea of big tank knowledge.

Please help me give this shark a decent home on a normal budget.

It should also be noted that a blue spotted stingray will also join the bamboo at some point later this year

I hate to be that guy but how soon do you plan on upgrading that is the worst possible setup for a shark. Go the longest and widest tank you can sharks and rays need the footprint height doesn’t help. Have you looked at glass cages 5300 could get you something nice try 84x30x25. I just got my 96x36x26

The place I'm putting it that's my only option. 72x30x30 or 96x24x24

For just about any shark I 100% agree. But a 2 foot marbled shark (active swimmer) or a 2.5 foot bamboo (dosent do much) can be in these dimensions (many people swear by 180 gallons) but I have a heart lol.

Nothing wrong with being that guy. We read the word shark and state our opinions.

But the Bamboo shark may be the exception

The rank is going in the hallway at the top of my stairs.

A beautiful display easily viewed by anyone who enters my home.

I've measured the 96x30x24 numerous times and it just blocks out too much of my hallway (sadly)
