Ban in Importing suggested by WHO

So I just saw this posted by Quality Marine on Facebook. Read through the letter and see what you think. To me it looks like it is all geared toward game animals. I know some fish are imported for food, but most of the hobby just wants their beautiful fish and coral . I honestly do not know what this industry can do to maybe change our own government minds on this topic for our own industry, but I am hoping that someone on this forum may be able to help us out. Tonga was coming in this for the first time in about five weeks. They were the first as far as I know to stop exporting coral. Please bring attention to this and tag people you may know that can help. I will start with @revhtree

If a human can catch a disease from a live fish from the ocean it's probably game over for humans.

What concerns me is the broad language used, something like this, even if intended only for game animal's, could easily include at the minimum the live fish market.

Broad language in these type of things is what caused the ban of the vast majority of fish medications available in stores here in Canada. Even though the ban was in no way connected to the use of these medications in home aquaria, because of the vague language used in the law, it ended the over the counter sales of copper based fish medications Canada wide. Now if you want those meds you have to either order from the US and pray they don't confiscate it at the border or pay an obscene amount of money for a vet to come to your house and prescribe the medication for your fish.

I hope something like this, if considered is well thought out and implemented so it doesn't have any unintended consequences on things it wasn't meant to affect.

unfortunally i don't think any imports are going to be coming in the near future :confused: priority first,good time to trade n share with fellow reefers,beware gouging,support your lfs if open,happy reefing,be safe all...

It says except for conservation purposes. I think one could argue, if it gets very far, that we are conserving the fish and eating them with butter and garlic sauce.

The thread is about the WHO, i said my take on the WHO. That the person in charge of the World HEALTH Organization is not a dr. I never said said anything about the pandemic i commented on the WHO. Calling someone a joke for telling me to "do my research" when he clearly did none is not aggressive, its accurate.

while the head of the WHO is not a physician, he does have a PhD. He’s also got quite the resume. He’s a microbiologist. He does research. There’s been success and failures and he’s been in a position that takes a lot of criticism. The WHO deserves some criticism for their response, but saying that he’s not a doctor is just a way to deflect responsibility from the shortcomings of others. I’ll ask my orthopedic surgeon buddy if he would be better equipped to handle the job. Wonder what he’ll say.

WHO WHAT WHERE..rt now.. do we really want containers of corals..1the bug,2 do you really think a live container of corals will take priority over ppe..emergency equip,not gonna happen ,as thousands of corals sit wherever waiting to die???
