What’s the eta on having water in it? I am very interested to see how the loop system works out for you.
Hopefully note more than a couple weeks. I'm waiting on bulkheads. I've got some mods to make for my stand. Need to paint the back of the tank.

Do you drill holes before or after painting? I would think after, but never actually painted a tank.

Recommendations for a paint type? Enamel? Latex? I planned to brush or roll it because I don't want to tape off the whole tank and worry about the overspray.

Hmmm. I am certainly not the guy to answer hole drilling and tank painting questions. I haven’t ever done either. The diy forum here has a lot of extremely knowledgeable people that can answer. if you don’t get a good response you should ask there for sure

I would paint then drill the holes. Seems like it would be easier to keep the paint out of the inside of the tank that way.

I have always used $1 spray cans to paint my tanks. I think it works very well. I always paint the back black as well.

Looking for a project box on Amazon. I've got a DIY float system to turn my RO on/off for the 20H storage tank. Going to expand it to also control some other stuff, so I need more relays and a larger 12v power supply.

It was mounted on a board before. It really should be in a box, I'm just not sure how big it needs to be. I'll have 4 or 5 relays and about 10--12 floats, over 2 or 3 different pumps/systems. I'm thinking at least 12x12 or thereabouts.

Got more rocks and sand today. That's 80lbs of rock to play with and 120lbs of sand. I think we're covered.

$1,000 worth of stuff on this table. The other $750 is sitting on the floor. (sump, skimmer and return pump)

Drilled the first holes today. 2 in the 20XH refugium. Both holes for 3/4" bulkheads.
Inlet through the bottom and will be fed by a small controllable DC pump in the sump. Outlet through the back and will gravity fall downhill (no siphon) about 8--10 inches and dump into the back of the DT via another 3/4 bulkhead. Mild blowout on one hole. No biggie.

Decided to make a DIY external box. My first time snapping glass. Turned out to be pretty easy. I tore a 10g apart for the glass, scraped clean and sanded all edges. Snapped the pieces to size and started slingin' silicone. Joints aren't exactly pretty, but fingers crossed they'll hold back the tank water.

I drilled the 20H for RO storage.

Working on the top for the stand. I need to drill a 2-1/4" hole to clear the bulkhead coming out the bottom of the refugium. Bought black paint and trim and a hole saw. Hoping to paint the 1st coat on the top this evening.
Also bought white semi gloss for inside the stand.

Working on the RO/DI system as well. Found the push connect fittings to get it running manually. Still waiting on a solenoid for my automation, but that can be cut into the feed line anytime.

1st coat of white on the inside. I'm using an exterior acrylic paint that's supposed to be mold and mildew resistant. It's got to dry for a bit, then we'll see how it looks after a 2nd coat.

2nd coat of paint inside.

2nd coat of paint on the underside of the top piece.

Still to do:
1 more coat of paint inside.
Set the top on, and secure.
Trim the top.
Mask off the insides of the doors and paint the entire outside with a few coats of satin black.

Looking great so far!. Well planned and the attention to detail stands out.

Question: it looks like you have a low level and redundant high level switches. Will the refill begin automatically once the low level switch is activated?. If sox what controller will you be using?

Thanks for the compliment.

DIY controls. Yes, the low level switch activates the RO/DI to turn on and refill the 20g tank. The mid (high level) switch is the OFF switch for the RO unit. Top switch is redundant shut off. Bulkhead to fill my saltwater mixing tank underneath. Still working out the automation part of filling my mixing tank underneath, so 1/2" bulkhead and bulkhead with a union for now.

The Icecap 24 sump only comes with 1 inlet pipe, so I added a 2nd hole and fittings. This is for my open channel pipe. The first hole is my full siphon. Dry channel goes to the skimmer compartment for now. Hoping to alarm it eventually.
Aiden is making sure I don't make any happy accidents.

Peeled the tape off the overflow box. It holds water. Seems look awful. Probably drill it tomorrow for three 1-inch bulkheads. Gonna drill two 1-inch for the tank drain.

Moved the stand and sump into my office. I'll have to adjust position a little. I also need to hang the pictures up over the monitors and use some power strips to get all my monitors and PC plugged into the same surge protector and battery backup. It's coming along.

We've decided to look for a large rubber mat to place over the carpet, rather than tear it all out and replace with tile. We just put new carpet and pad down 7 months ago. The wall is 12ft long, so I'm hunting for a 3' x 10' mat on Amazon or fleebay.

I siliconed the glass overflow box on the outside of the tank tonight. Seems still look atrocious, despite my best efforts at taping it all off. The mess comes when you go to remove the tape! (LOL)

I wasn't sure if it would stay up there by itself, so I cut some triangle gussets to place underneath. Hoping this will carry some of the weight vertically down the glass vs just hanging weight off the side of the glass.

The tank is on its side. This is the box attached to the back panel.
