What is the simplest way to set up a battery backup for a Gyre xf130 in case of power failure? Is there a specific battery backup for the Gyre similar to the Vortech, or should I look into an universal battery backup unit?

None of them are all that specific. A deep cycle battery (or in a pinch, a marine battery) is all you need.

The tricks, such as they are, are all in the charge maintenance and in the automated emergency failover.

The tricks, such as they are,

Bad choice of words there.....all you need is a charger and an inverter. Both of which can be had at any big box hardware store. Sometimes on the bigger units, they may do both charging and inverting.

Getting it to switch over to battery power unassisted - while you aren't there to swtich the power cords - is really the only trick.

A "transfer relay" is all you need for that. For example, a unit from Xantrex:

If you really have issues with power reliability, you should consider using an over-sized computer UPS or having an automatic failover generator installed.

The units you're looking at now will only run your pumps during an outage...which is okay for minor, short term outages. (But a simple airstone - or even nothing at all - will get most tanks through minor outages.)
