I am happy with this pump except for backing it up. Royal Exclusive recommends a pure sine wave UPS, there is no way to run it directly off DC power. A cheap Cyberpower unit gets me about 90 minutes of run time. This is fine, as I have a generator, but would prefer something that runs longer if I am not home. My UPS just died, and I am considering something like an AMPINVT 800W inverter. My understanding is this (along with a battery) would work the same way - just plug it in and it automatically keeps the battery charged, switches to battery when the AC goes out and switches back to AC and charges the battery. I can buy a bigger battery for longer uptime. When the battery goes bad, I just buy a new one. But I am completely unfamiliar with this. Should I buy this inverter? Stick to UPS? Or do you have any other suggestions?

You can buy a larger ecoflow battery (preferably lfp chemistry) and run it directly from that while plugged in.
A 1500w 1.5kw unit can run a red dragon 230w for approximately 6.5 hours (without factoring effeciency losses and gradual degredation)

They go on sale often and are way more useful than those cyberpowers with the measly sla batteries

Thanks. I am completely unfamiliar. Can you give me an example of a model that would work?

Amazon product
This unit in particular is 2000wh/2kw meaning it can run approximately 2000w for 1 hour.

Thanks. So this is essentially the same product as cyberpower, just beefier? I like the idea of something idiot-proof. Not because I am an idiot, but the nature of power issues is unplanned. So the less complicated and less that can go wrong, the better chance it works when I am not home, or when everything else is going wrong.

How does this work when the power goes out? Does it automatically switch to battery, switch back to AC when the mains come on and then automatically charge the battery for next time? I see 3 pieces of equipment, the inverter, the charger and the battery - is that all you have?

Exactly! It’s a 300 ah battery, so about 3840 WH…I keep a 100ah battery in back up. Have two generators if power stay off for a week or more, which it has….Florida, haha before and during hurricane!

How long does that battery last? I don't mean how long until a full charge runs out - I mean how often do you buy a new one? What model is it?

It's as simple in terms of being used but a lot more than what a cyberpower is due to the battery type and methods it can be charged (both ac and dc via solar)
