I experienced a constant cyano outbreak that

What are you doing for your nutrients?

I have powerheads. I have a off brand off of eBay. It rated 3250 gph and it plows had. Have a 600gph.

Maybe consider an upgrade to the powerheads then.....but can you post a tank shot so we can see how your setup is today?

When you say “ I am running carbon”, does it mean GAC? GAC is typically very effective at removing yellow tints in water.

Cyano is a sign of low/out of balance N and P most of the time.

If you're showing some phosphates in testing for the first time, I'll guess that nitrates are still showing something like zero?

If you can also bring up nitrates, you should be able to get the algae in the tank to progress like cyano > green algae > coraline algae.

If BOTH nutrient tests are no longer showing near-zero, then cyano should begin to clear up on its own....look out for the transition (above) and make sure you keep up with any mini-blooms along the way. Upgrade/increase the CUC and do manual work in the tank as needed.

Well the red is back again. I tested my ro/di water. Oh my goodness. Hand tester read 511. I changed out everything on the ro/di unit. Now water is 7 coming out. I changed membrane, 5micro filter, 2- carbon filters and di resin. Now time for large water changes. I will order some more Biodigest.

So I did a 30 gal water change after changing the filters. With in a week the sand cleared up. I do have some on the rock. I added a larger return pump. going to see what that will do.

Man i really feel for you. I don;t have any solutions, just sympathy...

When I had Cyano the owner of the LFS told me to make sure I killed it all with the first treatment of chemi clean or it may build up resistance and become super cyano. I ran it 24 hours and that got rid of 95% of it. So instead of doing the water change and a second dose, I let it go for an additional 12 hours, and it has never come back. My system is very small though. 32 gallons.
