I wanted to start by giving Special Thanks to Kessil, Sicce and Bulk Reef Supply for getting this build started!

I recently moved to Texas so this is a brand new build, I've been reefing since I was a kid and have been infatuated with the hobby ever since.

I do make more up to date or minute by minute updates on the build on my Instagram page if you would like to follow me on there as well.

Tank arrived in February in perfect condition had to slip the delivery guy some money to get it up into my garage for me.

Opened the crate to inspect and Innovative Marine does an excellent job at creating the tank.

I've been working on the aquascape in the garage on a fold out Costco table which is exactly the dimensions of the tank. I use the method done by tidal gardens using Super Thin CA blue and Aragonite sand to bond the pieces together.

Check out my video on it here AquaScaping the 200EXT

I've been really wanting to do the custom light mount with the automatic raising and lowering of the arms. I came up with the idea with a friend of mine back home to use the electronic legs of a stand up desk.

I fabricated a mount to attach it to the back of the aluminum EXT stand with some 8020 accessories and then slide the table legs into this custom sleeve.

It came out pretty good! You can check out the video post here Automated Lift Light Bracket System

I chose the Synergy Reef SK60 Sump for this build. I originally went with a trigger 39 platinum but the size was adequate for me, and I like that you can remove the filter roller and use socks at anytime.

Here are the spec.
  • Dimensions: 60″ long x 18″ wide x 18″ high ( 23-25″ with Clarisea Installed)
  • Refugium Section: 13″ x 17.5″ (Approximately 12 Gallons)
  • Skimmer Section: 19.5″ x 17.5″
  • Return Pump Section: 9″ x 17.5″
  • Total Water Volume: 74 Gallons
  • Skimmer Water Level: 6″ to 10″ adjustable

I have been playing around with the reefbrite mounts with the Kessil A500x mounted in the middle of it. I decided to use only one of the mounting brackets to make it look clean.

I cut and mounted a piece of MDF whiteboard to the back of the lift system to neatly install all the power bricks and provide some wire management, the reason for the board is that the lift will lift all the components up with it, so that I don't have a ton of wires going down and can possibly get tangled while the lift moves up and down.

Also when the tank is pushed up against the wall it will be very hard to get back there so I can detach the entire board and replace a power brick or add/remove something in the future.

I can't say enough good things about this fantastic sump made by Synergy Reef. I've slid it under the cabinet and its a perfect fit!

This sump has the option to run two clearisea SK5000 filter rollers, and with a simple switch of a bracket you can be running 4" or 7" filter socks.

It's pretty interesting that synergy now offers the clarisea option...

This is what they said to me in December when i asked for a CL60 to fit a Clarisea and when I specifically asked if i could "get [a] two sock section that just drops in and is removable (for temporary use while order/wait to made for a new filter roll machine)?":

1621749731686.png

So they basically told me no way--go pound sand--then sold you one just like i asked maybe a month or two later...

My CL-60 is nice, and all, and i ordered a Klir 7 inch for it, but it kind of erks me that they would do that...

This is what they had to say about why they did not offer the option:

That is interesting, they released the the SK44 and SK60 with the options you had laid out, maybe based on feedback for the need? I never asked them to make a custom sump with those features, it was already developed that way. When they made the announcement a few months ago I jumped at the opportunity because it is exactly what I needed.

Dry fitting all the blue 1" PVC plumbing, I tried several different layouts and this seems to be the most aesthetically pleasing and most easy to maintain. This is just the dry fit layout the final layout will have unions at each section so I can easily remove it and replace or clean in the future.

I used Oatley Fusion 2in1 PVC glue which is fantastic, no need for a separate primer and it saves a lot of time and mess.

I purchased a 40w Pentair UV sterilizer and was contemplating installing it vertically or horizontally and plumbing it to my manifold.

After speaking to some reefers online, we thought it would best to install the UV sterilizer inline with one of the returns so that the water doesn't get recycled in the sump, I ended up removing the long section of return that went to the far left return nozzle and replaced it with the UV sterilizer in its place.

Yeah, i just wish they gave me the option to wait while they made your sump, lol... Seems they just took the immediate sale...

They used to do custom stuff from what i understand but stopped because easier/less hassle to not...

No bother, my next sump for my 50 lagoon ext was not Synergy i will say though... To me the entire point of paying far more for made in USA plus heavy shipping costs is only worth if its great customer service...

Everytime i spoke with them, they seemed jaded and/or didnt have time for me... i mean im buying a $2000 sump with shipping and she told me she had to get back to work... like selling to me wasn't worth while work for her i guess...

I get it everyone has a bad day, but I've never been blown off like that by any other company... i mean my budget is unlimited, i have three reef aquariums... i had maybe six questions in total before closing the deal... I almost didn't buy it at all, but decided to figuring they were not ever going to offer what i wanted...

Probably go royal exclusive in the future...

I do like your sump though!

Let me know how your clarisea works... they seem to think it wont... (and now they sell the option?!) but i disagree... her flow figures were way off... her reasoning was based on high flow and people not wanting to pay for fleece..

First, there is no reason to run more than 1000 gph through that sump... you could 700-800 fine IMO. And that would probably better... flow is wave wakers not returns...

Second, i am buying a $2000 box when i could make do with some for $200. Talk about not understanding your customer base... ill pay $50 a month to not touch filter socks happily...

Third, tons of people love clariseas so i think they just set it up wrong if they had issues...

Fourth, clearly they did not test every filter roller... (when they said "all" didnt work) ... unless she thinks royal exclusive drop in rollers are crap too??? Plus, people have great success with all kinds of models...

They should just being willing to make chambers to fit different rollers size and needs... rollers not socks is where the hobby is going!!
