Looking at my tank , I have diatoms on the bed and gha on the rocks. Not a lot but noticeable on the rocks and lots of diatoms on the bed . I knew this day would come eventually.

I want to would a long fight if possible. I plan on doing a small 2-3g wc to siphon the bed ( half inch deep) to stir and rid some of the diatoms. I did this 2-3 days ago but it returned .

I also want to dip my toothbrush in 3% Walmart hydrogen perioxide and scrub . I’ll put 2ml in a cup and dip the brush before brushing the rocks . Probably won’t even use a fourth of it . Whatcha think?

Maybe a small turbo snail to munch ?

Cuc consist of 2 small hermits, 1 cleaner shrimp , 1 trochus snail.

How old is the tank.

Her more snails and a toothbrush.
The diatoms will go alway. You don’t need the peroxide.

Pics will help.

Also , might this be a result of me removing an emerald crab? Had to remove it because I just don’t trust them.

Tank was pretty nice 2-3 weeks ago. Did a phos test and had really low numbers .... .01 ppm on Hannah . So I was like ok I can feed more to the fish and corals and here we are lol

Hermits also took out 2 snails not too long after I introduced.

Originally had 3 trocs, 1 nass snail, 1 emerald , 1 cleaner shrimp.

Then added 2 hermits that killed 2 trocs. I guess it’s an even trade as far as algae grazers? Maybe not. idk lol

I prefer snails over crabs esp for algaes.

Not sure what your brownish stuff is
I don’t see diatoms

This might be better

Yea kinda odd. I’d try a fighting chonk for the sand. The stuff on the right kinda looks like corraline coming in if it doesn’t brush off.
The left I’m not sure. But if you’re low on grazers that might help.
Is the rodi zero tds?

Yeah rodi is always zero. Tds has been creeping up though . Final batch of 5 gallon had a gallon of 1 tds mixed in so I put it aside for maybe rinsing equipment after vinegar dip or something .

I ordered filter replacement last night and it came in today ( love amazon prime lol)

Just installed it and I’m good to go now.

Gotcha ...I was afraid of that so I changed it all out. Only thing not changed is the membrane. Should I change it too ? Thought that part last little bit longer.
It does. I wouldn’t worry about it.
IF silicates are getting past it it’s the DI. Not really convinced it’s diatoms. But.....
Younger tanks will cycle through algae and such. Good to keep playing with the cuc.
