Hello! I am currently running a 11.3 gal setup, I think I have kinda, not really mastered maintaining somewhat level parameters, so
I have a spare 2.5 gal tank that I rarely ever use, and ive been thinking
how fun would it be to make a nano saltwater tank from it?
what would I need
what would I do
what would I put into it?

thanks,
stewy

I don’t see any mention of parameter tracking on your build thread. What do you mean by “kinda, not really mastered maintaining somewhat level parameters”? Things happen quite fast in a nano tank and from your build thread it kinda seems like there’s a lot going on that you could probably work on. Really not trying to shut you down here, just trying to explain that it’ll likely be harder to maintain a smaller volume than what you’re already trying to keep

I get what u are saying and I completely respect that! in the past, what, 2 months? I have been able to keep parameters somewhat stable, little, minuscule swings. I do get what u are saying and I genuinely respect this answer! if I do do a pico tank, I probably will only put in gsp, Xenia and the easies :D

I think you should get your 11 gallon tank under control before starting an even harder one

But if you really are dedicated and the issues in the 11g truly are from incorrect lighting…then here’s my 1.1g pico to show what a small tank can be

It’s from lighting and me still kinda learning to get parameter swings under control, as I said, I am doing better! But thanks for the article!
When I get my new tank rock, will be the day fully dedicated to tank!

I second this idea. Picos can crash very quickly due to parameter swings. I wouldn't start the pico until your 11g is flourishing and doing well.

Param's are going to be unstable in the beginning. I mean my 15 gallon tank took close to 6 months to finally stabilize. I'm a nano guy.

I did do a 2 gallon PICO but the tank design sucked. I transitioned to PNW 1 gallon. Works amazing. Stable-wise it needs water changes once a week. Other than that evap is contained with lid.

Now when I remove the nem. I plan to do GSP on back wall. Then pulse xenia. Maybe some small mushrooms on the bottom.
