I have set up a 13.5 Fluval Evo as a reef nano tank after it was gifted to me. I plan on keeping a small pair of ocellaris clowns, some coral frags, and perhaps an anemone. I am also currently working on setting up a larger tank once the clowns start to outgrow this set up. I’m wondering what anemone y’all would think would do best in this set up? I have a small wave maker to increase flow and a hob protein skimmer as well as an upgraded light.

Do you intend for the Anemone to host the clowns?
That would be ideal, simply because I love that relationship so much but I know some clowns don’t host anemones when you try to pair them up. So I would prefer it to be an anemone that they can host if they so choose.

do you have any specific nem in mind, Rock flowers are great for not splitting and not taking up muchroom but they dont really host clownfish, you could go with bubble tip nems as they have a ton of variety and are the most commonly seen in the hobby hosting clowns

I saw a rainbow bubble tip online I really liked, I will say I am partial to the bubble tip because they are my mom’s favorite.

rbtas will definetly host a pair of clowns but one thing to watch out for is they do love to split, but a good thing is they don't as big as other strains like Chicago sunbursts and Colorado sunbursts

That was my fear… my larger tank isn’t set up but I know of a local aquarium store that could take a section in if it splits

nexus burst btas tend to stay the smallest but are unfortunately more expensive

I think your best bet for what you seem to want is definetly a Rbta, they're cheap colorful and don't get as big as other bubble tips, as long as you watch for babies you should be fine

Problem with the splits is getting them off the rock. I went from 3 to about 50 rbt nems once. I flooded the local market and the lfs wouldn't even take any more.
If this is your first tank I would look at rock flowers and maybe something else later when you get the hang of things. There are a lot of different colors and a rock flower garden can be very beautiful. I only have 3 but one is a baby from a spawn of the other two which is cool. I actually caught a video of mine spawning one night after my skimmer overflowed.
The baby from a previous spawn is on the left

If your main goal is an anemone for the clowns to host, I’d honestly wait until you have the larger tank set up. A bubble tip would probably be the most practical hosting anemone, but they can get pretty large, move around the tank, and sting corals, which becomes a much bigger issue in a 13.5 gallon.

If you just want an anemone in the Evo, a rock flower anemone would be a much better fit size-wise, although your clowns probably won’t host it.

They do take over tanks... but they are fun if this is their designated tank! My clowns love them and if they move and sit on something else- 🤷‍♂️ this is their home

awesome tank! I'm thinking of doing one like the one ReefUnderTheRoof has when my csb eventually splits

If you live near salisbury md I've got 10 orange bubble tip anemones cheap for you!

Had a BTA in a 20g and loved mine despite the stress it caused me when I went out of town, haha

I would tell you a maxi mini carpet nem they'll only get 4-6 inches and don't split as badly as the sunbursts
