I use shopmedvet media on a recirculating skimmer. I get about 7-10 days out of it. I’m sure if I used a bigger canister I could extend this. You can’t go by change in color, as if I’m not mistaken, it will turn back white after a while.

I was using the BRS media initially, but I just switched to Icecap to try that out. When the BRS media was completely exhausted, it didn't change color a bit. Basically my pH starting falling off rapidly and that was my clue :)

no idea how it fully works, @Projects with Sam would know best
Hi! I've only had to replace it every 3 months or so. Its not a huge PH boost but that may be because there is only a few cups of media in mine (140mm). the larger skimmers have wider lids. I've also thought about making a taller one but no one has requested it.

hehe...

I run a recirc setup on an Octo skimmer. You don't have to, nor want to, block any other holes. Works great, sometimes too good and I have to open the valve and let in some room air when it hits 8.5.

I use the BRS media and have to change it maybe once a month in a 10" scrubber.
I know this is an older post but hoping to gain some insight on your statement about blocking any other holes. I’m getting ready to install a 3D printed recirculating ring from Fish of Hex, and it comes with small caps for closing off the vent holes in the lid. Is this what you were referring to? No need to block the holes?

Right. Because the skimmer is drawing in the air, it won’t expel more air then it sucks so there should be an equilibrium and no holes should need to be blocked.

I actually purposefully leave them unblocked on my recirculating co2 scrubbing skimmer caps so if there is a skimmer overflow it will still drip out the top of the skimmer…

I think I came to the conclusion after extensive BRS scrubber video watching.
