This is my 6 month old 20 gallon tank. I have no fish but 2 snails. On the top of my rocks it looks to be growing hair algae? What would be my best option to have this go away?

I like emerald crabs but also manually removal with a brush (but dont leave the dead algae in there). Some phosphate media might help if its that's a problem but I'm guessing it's just because it's a new tank. Some bacterial supplements like waste away or microbacter clean may help too

I'm also a fan of lawnmower blennies as they are hilarious to watch. Tuxedo urchins are lawnmowers for algae too

Get yourself a mexican turbo snail from your LFS. But have a plan to bring the snail back or give it to a fellow reefer before it starves. The snail will literally mow down your lawn. While it's doing that get your nutrients under control. Lastly, get yourself a good snail clean up crew, my favorite are margarita snails -- but only after the Turbo does it's job.

Actually forget what I said. Your tank's fine IMHO. Some hair algae is just a sign of nutrients being more than your biofilter can process. I don't see enough algae there to get another kind of animal. Just increase your snail population and manage nutrients .....suggest getting some coral, maybe?

I should read more carefully before responding ;)

Looking back to your reefing roots: Did you start with Instant Ocean salt?
