I’m starting a 10 gallon nano tank with just a regular old glass tank. What type of filtration is good with that type of tank. Specifically hang on the back. Any tips or tricks you would recommend with a hang on the back filter. Pros vs Cons. Any thing would help.

I would just get a fijicube HOB refugium and use a fine mesh sponge as a pre filter. It will increase your water volume and basically leave you with no need to water change to remove nitrate or phosphate (if you get the right light. However, seachem makes a small hob and so does aquaclear (fluval) that should work on that size.
