Best home for McCoskers

Which would be the best selection of tank for a small (assuming it's a female?) McCoskers (Psuedocheilinus)?

125 with sand and live rock, mostly SPS, contains pair of GSM's, Yellow Watchman, Green Mandarin, male Exquisite wrasse (Cirrhilabrus), male Ornate Leopard (Macropharyngodon), and a Purple Tang

120 with sand and live rock, mostly softies and SPS, contains a pair of Tomato clowns, Tomini Tang, Fusi goby, female black spotted leopard wrasse (Macropharyngodon), Mystery wrasse (Psuedocheilinus)

130 with no sand or rock, but tons of egg crate and frags (numeous hiding places, but nothing enclosing...), contains a pair of Ocellaris clowns, pair of Banggai cardinals (still relatively small), Yellow Tang, and a Circus goby

Last option is in a 75 that will have sand and live rock, containing a very aggressive tomato clown, Tangoroa goby w/ Randall's pistol. The tomato has allegedly killed a feww small fish. We've seen her chase them, but they alway got away (she's pretty good sized, so they could fit places she couldn't).

Let me know what you think.

The 125 is more of a display, so I'd love to do that. I think I'll give it a shot, first. I wasn't sure about the Exquisite (wasn't too worried about the others). If not, the 130 is the one I was planning on originally (as long as the lack of a sand bed wasn't a deal breaker).

shouldn't be an issue with the Exquisite... :)

Thanks for the input, Marvin and Joey:). I love wrasses and knew I had a number of choices for a home, so I couldn't resist (only $20 to boot:)).

either the 125 or 130 the mystery would be a problem in the 120..also why do u want a female Mccoskers?..males look so much better and a mccosker is a paracheilinus not peudocheilinus...just make sure u have a top and not eggcrate because they will go right through it

I really like wrasses also but just now starting to keep more of them. I have a few but there like a drug I want more. There just so under rated. I love to watch my Flames do there thing ;)

It seems to be doing well in the 125. The colors are awesome. It flashed me shortly after I put it in (my first flashing;)). It's a little guy. I assume it's a female because it is so small. For $20, I figured I couldn't go wrong.

I would say frag tank if you are going to put it in a tank with another wrasse i would recommend you put it in a clear holder for a day and see how the other wrasse react

nice pickup. i have one mccoskers now and have had a heck of a time finding another one locally to pair with it. ugh. i have mine in with a lineatus and a mystery with no problems.

The 130 isn't covered (open top with 4-5" wide Eurobracing). I'd have had to do some work on that one... The Exquisite was interested in the new wrasse, but never did much more than rush it once or twice. It's hanging out in the water column already:).

cool..the males are very easy to tell with this fish it will have a single yellow filament on the dorsal fin..the females lack this filament and the colors are quite dull when compared to the males...hope u can get some pics of him soon

Just to help people reading this thread, it is spelled "Pseudocheilinus" ("eu" not "ue"), and, as detguy123 already said, the McCosker's Flasher Wrasse is "Paracheilinus mccoskeri," not "Pseudocheilinus."

True enough, but on the smaller ones, the yellow filament may not be obvious until or unless they actually display.

that is true and if it is a female turning into a male it may have a small filament that is hard to see but females will not flash..but will raise its fins and thats when u can tell but the females stay smaller and its colors will be much duller than a male still very easy to tell the differance

Interesting, I didn't realize that flashers changed sex. Detguy do you know what it is that stimulates this change? The reason I ask is because I bought two, which both the LFS owner and I thought where female flashers about a year ago. However, when placed together in the same tank, they began to display and both showed a small filament. However, I lost one about two months ago, and the other no longer displays, and the filament is no longer evident.

flashers change sex as well as other wrasses but most flashers are born females and the dominat female will become a male..but once one changes into a male that is called a terminal male..some use supermale..fairy wrasses do this also..but once one turns into a terminal male it can no longer go back into a male..not sure on what makes them change..let me see if i can dig up some pics of females
