What would be the best light for my Red Sea 170? It will have both coral and fish in the tank. Looking for something that will make colors really stand out..

Whats your budget? Alot will depend on that. Ive seen decent noops. Radions are like the standard top of the line, there are MH purists, T5 purists, hybrid set ups.

Basically comes down to taste, budget, and whose snake oil you believe in. Even the cheapest lights have successful tanks.

Amazon SmatFarm. Cheap, reliable, no stupid app that crashes or loose connectivity for no reason. Just simple set and forget with ramp up and ramp down. Will grow anything you want. Don't drink the Radion or AI or Kessil kool-aid. I have 4 Radion XR30 I got for cheap. But I will never pay full price for any of those name brands. There's nothing magical about them. Look for any light with enough wattage and the right spectrum and you will be fine.

For your tank, just get full spectrum led with 90-150w of power. Should cost you less than $200.

The best light for a tank that size imo are the ai prime 16 hd’s. I have 3 of these and prefer the look they give my nano tanks over the 3 g5 xr15 radions on my large tank. The ai has a spread of 24x24 inches so 1 would be enough for your tank. They are very powerful for their size and hands down beat all of these no name chinese boxes and you will have warranty and technical assistance should the need arise.

Or this one??
I just got the 100w one. It’s very nice. Basic settings unless you get the remote to actually set the timers for ramp up and all that. Only have one right now on my 40g breeder but it seems to cover the whole tank. I don’t have any corals yet other than a pulsing Xenia. Have 4 other frags coming this week so I’ll see how they do with the one light before adding another. The questions on the amazon page say I’d need 2 but I’ll figure it out as I go. Reviews are really good.

I love this forum :face-blowing-a-kiss:
Thank you @ninjamyst and @Falcon30 for your advice.
I ordered two to replace my 2 strips of Orbit Marine IC LED. I like their Loop system but we need to move forward.

One looks enough. Do you think I need to add one more? I’ll test it for few days

A G5 XR15 will do a reasonable job for LPS and lower light SPS, but even at max with a longer photoperiod, the higher light acroporas and whatnot will need to be centered and in the top half of the tank to really get enough light. I used one in my tank for a while and eventually swapped up to an XR30 G5 and run it around 60% because it was just a tad too little to get my acros happy.

I don't think I would go with an XR15 G6 just because the wider angle LEDs will spread the light more and remove some of the hotspot needed for higher light corals, but you're also not going to find one for $300. An older XR30 (maybe G4) could be an option if it's not heavily used, otherwise something like the Noopsyche or a smaller (<24") Photon would probably be a good choice. For sort of 'standard' LED efficiency in modern fixtures, I'd expect to need at least 60W worth for LPS, with more being desirable, and then 100W+ worth for SPS kinds of PAR levels.
