So Im debating getting a protein skimmer for my 150 with 55 gal sump which brand would yall go with for a tank this size? Thanks!
I wished I had the option to Rank them from my experience. On my 120 gallon Reef, I currently have the Aquamaxx DCQ-2... 190-300gallons..Quiet and nice...first ran into some operating error initially, but now silent and running like I wanted...via my Apex Controller. My other option would be the Skimz Brand. I have the Skimz 161 serves 120-200 gallons (purchased in 2016)...Pulls every nasty thing out and Currently serves as a backup...Love both of those. I decided to add a Float switch on both of them for added piece of mind.

I'm a Bubble Magus fan myself. For your tank a Curve 5 or 7, they're inexpensive and workhorses. Also super easy to maintain.

I am glad you had a better experience than I had. I ended switching my Bubble Magnus DC Curve 8 (purchased in 2020) within 3 weeks to the Aquamaxx DCQ-2...Sill have it in my garage since I couldn't return it because water touched it according to the online vendor. The reason is that once the power goes out (Either power outage or routine maintenance) the Skimmer would have to be manually turned back on from the controller...I reached out the the manufactures representative in CA and they mentioned it was a known fact and that change would come in updated skimmer controllers.

Maxspect Jump
Dual intake
DC pump controller
Safety float switch

You wont find any better for $350

Sold out everywhere in the US. I bought mine through AliExpress (little more in cost) and it arrived in less than a week.

My Personal preference leans more towards external skimmers .

had a reef octopus recirculating one . It was a beast . And stood roughly 36” tall .

my current skimmer is a Mrc mr-2
I believe it’s Rated for 300 gal

That's rough... I've had a Curve 5 (non DC) for almost 6 years and it's the easiest skimmer I've ever owned. I clean skimmer cup weekly and clean total skimmer once a year - zero issues.
