Best results for fragging a Pectina?

I've been asked by a couple people to frag a pectina I have, but I've also heard they do not frag well. What's your best method and what are the success rates? Any specifics would be helpful.

Never fragged one but the 2 frags I have bought 1/4" or so looked to be cut from just about any where like a chalice.... They seem pretty hardy both my frags have done well even being that small.... But I'm sure you already knew that.. :tongue:

Thanks Lee. Thats the thing, I know a good friend who has lost 50% of the frags he's made and another who also has not had the best of luck.

I would ask Vic from WWC, as they appear to have fragged the Space Invaders with great success.

Are you cutting it with the band saw? I would assume slow threw it at high speed would be the best way.

Razor blade and hammer would be less heat and friction... I have heard the same stories with chalices... My take on it is people don't clean there equipment well... When using a dirty blade with gawd knows What bacteria etc it causes a infection... You can always take a sponge with peroxide or something and clean it well rinse with rodi and frag.... Just my thoughts any ways...

Those are my thoughts too. I clean the blade and saw body with vinegar after a frag anything with my bandsaw. Then re-assemble it and put a little rodi in the reservoir and run the saw for a minute or two to rinse it.

I'm also curious is it is better to cut the "branch" or the "body". Do frags form their own eyes like Chalices over time?

Check with Terry (stryker) I believe but not sure he was one of the originals with the spaceinvader pectina
I also think he has fragged a few times

No nuggets here Kevin. I stopped getting new corals months ago. My SI is just getting too big for its location :nerd:

Mark, first 2 times I fragged it I had 4 out of 7 pieces died. Then I realized what the secret was. The bone part needs to be face down on superglued to the frag plug. I hope I make sense.
Let's say ur si is a circle like a pizza. If u cut it down the middle in half then you would mount the two half standing straight up with the cut part facing down on the frag plug.

Last 3 times I fragged and use this technique I lost only 1 outta the 11 frags I made and it was because the piece that died had 2 cut sides and one was facing up.
