Agreed. I know there are others. They will now have a shot to grow that big. It’s no longer in the sump.I personally don't like when they get this big, but its probably not doing any harm in the sump.
That's a fire worm not a bristle.Look at this sizeable guy I just found in the sump.
Ohhh really? I was having trouble differentiating the pictures when looking+1 Fire worm. You'll probably want to (carefully) pull the rest out, too.
The red flanking the sides and the white bristles are the two dead giveaways.Ohhh really? I was having trouble differentiating the pictures when looking
Can you share what is the thing that makes you be able to tell the difference?
Well that is concerning. For some reason I thought fire worms ate live things. How was this thing surviving and thriving in the sumpThe red flanking the sides and the white bristles are the two dead giveaways.
they are scavengers, the issues is their bristles have a nasty sting.Well that is concerning. For some reason I thought fire worms ate live things. How was this thing surviving and thriving in the sump
Use tongs. Their cheatae can pierce nitrile and latex.Appreciate the info. I’ll go looking for the smaller ones with a glove on
they may be able to get through a single latex glove, so have some layering if possible (with a buffer of something). If you have forceps or something those would work well.Appreciate the info. I’ll go looking for the smaller ones with a glove on
They are primarily predators, but are opportunistic feeders and can survive off of pods and algae in your sump.Well that is concerning. For some reason I thought fire worms ate live things. How was this thing surviving and thriving in the sump
The giant came out with a pair of tongs but I knew exactly where it wasthey may be able to get through a single latex glove, so have some layering if possible (with a buffer of something). If you have forceps or something those would work well.
Kinda hard to miss that beast! The giant came out with a pair of tongs but I knew exactly where it was
You don't need to get them out ASAP since they are in the sump, you can go in with a flashlight and tongs and look around for a while. The giant came out with a pair of tongs but I knew exactly where it was
Turns out I should look at the sump more often with a light at night lol. I think it has prob been growing for a year.Kinda hard to miss that beast!
It'll be fine, its a relatively small impact and others will take its place.Turns out I should look at the sump more often with a light at night lol. I think it has prob been growing for a year.
I’m just hoping I don’t see any negative impact from losing what was probably a great CUC member
