Hello.
Im moving homes and i wanna have a smaller reef tank. D-D pro 600 cube with 60x60x46. But because these Aquarium nearly have no rooms in theyre sumps i try to get only the Display tank.
Then make a custom Furniture and bigger Sump then my current Nyos Opus 440. So i can habe a Frag tank inside the sump and have plety of Space for technic.

Does anybody has done similar things?

No but I like the idea

Both of the sumps I had where repurposed once display tanks. The bigger the sump you can fit the better. More space for media, or simply higher water volume that adds stability as well. You can order a custom one or look what you can get on the market. Sky is the limit.
