Bio load with bigger fish

Spiney box (6"), Stars and Stripes (7-8"), 2x Porc (8"), Dogface (7"), 2x valentini puffers (2-3"), 1x Caribbean Puffer (not sure of exact name, but they half bury in the sand) (7"), 2x green spotted puffers (2-3") (the brackish type now moved to full salt), and earl the molly miller blenny, as he is the only fish they have not tried to eat its fins.

Dang that's one impressive fuge handling all that. I have a feeling ole earl isn't long for this world though.

What's your opinion between the porkies, stars & stripes, & the dogface? Those are the 3 I'm looking at. My favorite fish personality wise has been the porky, but I haven't owned the other 2.

Once I get back home, sure. Just do not laugh at the little spotted puffers as they are mentally challenged and photobomb everything.

I have lots of large filthy fish in my tank, I have caulerpa in my sump that I have to rip out every few weeks, a giant skimmer, and a 500 gallon system. I haven't tested nitrates, but the skimmer and macro are definitely doing their jobs based on how much filth the skimmer removes and how little other growth and nasties I have in the tank. I can usually eyeball and see when my nitrates are >100. I need to just stop being lazy and test it.

I need to also add other macroalgaes, caulerpa are good but there are plenty that are better. I have a sump light for them, an AI Prime HD set mostly purple and only at night.

I would at least pay you for shipping, but I would be interested in such an offer if you're OK with that. I don't know much about it, how will it handle being with caulerpa in a sump?

yup. I have caulerpa, sea grass, cheato, and garciliria all in one sump that is a display sump.

Puffers, triggers, and eels are definitely going to be the messiest and create the most waste. Large angels and tangs will create less of a mess and this may lead to a lower nutrient level as well (i.e., no uneaten food rotting in the interstitial spaces). Regardless, you'd want a massive skimmer and it sounds like you're in good position there.

I'd suggest a chaeto reactor or a large refugium. The reactor is nice because it takes up less space yet can still grow an amazing amount of algae... just gets dense!

There are some people that use sand filters with great success. Just have to make sure you can backflush it to remove the trapped sediments.

Personally, I like to use quilt batting (filter padding) as well to trap as much sediment as possible. I change it out every couple days and it's super cheap. With large predators, this type of mechanical filtration seems like a must.

I really need to go the scrubber route for space, but I need to verify this stuff won't infect the display. The stands that don't void my warranty are pretty low as well unless a drop 1k on one. I had a 75, but getting to the skimmer is almost impossible with the height of a std 75 under the stand.

I've been looking at Chaeto reactors as well but not sure of the size for a larger tank.

I use polyfill type mechanical as well. I run drains into over sized pvc filled with floss. Ill do a thread once I get the details ironed out and a bunch of pics after I get it together.

FYI, you can build a chaeto reactor pretty easily out of a used media reactor. VERY simple yet quite effective. Just try to find the largest possible reactor, wrap it with grow LEDs and you're basically set.

I really like the chaeto reactors as well. I'll probably need one as big as the skimmer though. I'm looking into them as we speak
