Birds-eye fish view: Do you ever watch your fish from above?

reminds me of looking in the tide pools on the beach as a child that inspired my love of the ocean and fish to begin with. That’s why one of my tanks is shallow and on a low table. People love walking around it and pointing at the starfish

Thanks for sharing! I had a similar experience with anemones in tide pools as a child which has a connection to my interest in Rock Flower Anemones many, many years later.

I wasn’t really into the top down view until I started a new tank. I got extremely lucky getting clowns that are very personable. The second the flow gets shut off they come right to the top to hang out and feed. My other tank downstairs nobody comes to the top to feed. They only feed suspended in the water column.

I've never had a tank that I was able to conveniently view everything from the top. Now I have a rimless tank that comes up to mid-chest height so it's going to be great.

Yup, being viewed from above was a primary consideration in designing this setup which included custom built LEDs recessed into the balcony above the system so they would not obstruct the view.

Tank looks better this way and I get to watch my little ******** clownfish who I plucked as a pity rescue from LFS - the runt of the group who was getting nipped at - and now he/she bites my hand

I have on occasion but rarely… only when I do tank Maintenence like cleaning the light hood. It is the best way to view the tank, especially the corals. The fish look ok but they are better viewed from the side.

Top down is my favorite way to view my tanks. So much so that I have plans to convert my garage into a fish room with the longterm goal being a large reef pond. It will be much lower than a typical display tank and will have a bar on one side so that I can sit there and have a drink while I hand feed my fish. This is my iteration of a "man cave."
