Birdsnest Question

I just got this frag 2 days ago, it was pretty white near the base when I got it. What are yalls opinion on how it should fare?
I do still see bumps from the polyps and flesh so it's not like striped to skeleton but idk, let me know your thoughts, if you have experience with birdsnests, not test kits. *Sorry bout the blue light, will post some photos this afternoon under a more white spectrum!

The base looks dead possibly from lack of light. Birdsnest like higher light and it appears you have it placed on the bottom.
It should encrust the dead skeleton given enough light.

if you see white polyps on the base, it could be that the frag was made from a part that was partially shaded, in time it could color up. one thing that i have noticed is that most birdsnest never really encrust the plug, they tend to just start growing up. a picture in white light may be better to help us determine if it has STN, dead skeleton, or just bleached skeleton.

have had it for about 36 hours, I don't think my placement and low light is the issue here, this is how it looks upon receiving

yeah its not skeleton the taper is putty too that looks very white
just flipped the lights for a min to show

I do plan on moving up higher, just where I put things for a few days to settle in before gluing in higher light and flow

That's normal, imo. The white side was facing down when fragged so not much growth underneath.
Mine is near the bottom in my 150 and is quite thick due to placement near the Sweep.
Mine is around 200 par but they can handle as much light as you can give them once acclimated.

Just got it from a local reefer for 5$ so know he just puttied it like 4 days ago, he may have just took the not nicest piece of shady undergrowth or something

Oh no, I wasn't saying it was your doing. I was just saying that is usually what causes the bases/undersides of SPS to die is lack of light.

Ok, that is a better pic. That should color back up once it acclimates and you move it to higher light.
