So first off I’m looking to upgrade my lights currently have AquaticLife edge led light. I bought what I was told a birds nest. At the store it was nice and colorful. Placed it in my tank the color it had at the lfs is only on the tips which you can kinda see in the pic in my tank. Today the base is turning white like it’s dying my nitrates (10) are on the high side. I dose no pox. My question is I feel like my light isn’t strong enough. I’m shooting for a mix reef tank. I bought this as a test coral. Any advise

Assuming your light is maxed out in intensity, move it up to the top in the highest flow and light.

Hard to tell from the pics , but it could just be the underside of the colony not getting light.

The STN/RTN dead area is probably not due to your lights. My SPS just get's dark when it's not getting enough light, dead areas are due to water chemistry issues.

So many variables here.

First, we need to know how far the coral is from the light.
Second, what size tank and how much flow you have.
Third, what is your ph, calcium and alk.

These would be the top areas of investigation.

My bet is that the flow just isn't enough but, I am just spit balling here.

Now I did notice the white skeleton at the base yesterday I changed my light schedule on Thursday. It’s been in my tank for a month. It’s placed level with wave pump and off set about 3” of direct flow

Oh 8.4
