BJD?

Brown jelly disease, or just decaying flesh or some kind of natural response? Had some issues with my torches recently, which I concluded was to do with lighting, but this head might have been too far gone, and mostly detached from the skeleton. It showed parts of the ‘stomach’ or those inner tubes, and just today Ive been able to see the brown stuff. Never had a problem with a confirmed case of BJD, what could this be? I’ll try and remove the head tomorrow if this isn’t some kind of repair response or something.

Yeah, had trouble with getting the photos through, sorry. I got rid of the head though, and turned off my main power head. Smelled awful, but I think I got it early enough that it didn’t spread. Any idea if it affects anemones, lobos or leather corals?

It can spread, usually to other LPS so potentially Lobos. Did you toss the whole coral? Or a single head from the coral?

If it's BJD it would likely kill the entire colony before spreading to something else in the tank.

I just got rid of the one head, since it was damaged and had visible BJD, but it doesn’t seem like it had spread at all. How long can it stay active?

It's a fairly fast spreading disease. I'm not quite sure how long until you can be sure it's gone...

Oh okay, Im a little worried I damaged another heads tendrils a little bit with the siphon hose, but it isn’t any major damage, so it won’t make it much more susceptible to BJD i imagine. I think it’s healed over already, but I’ll keep a close eye to make sure it doesn’t show up anywhere else. I imagine an infection that ravenous would be pretty dependent on a host? It might not last long independently in the tank?

I believe so, but I'm not an expert in it having only fought it twice.
