So I bought two scarlet cleaner shrimp from liveaquaria Monday and got them shipped yesterday. They seem to be doing fine but I’ve noticed one of the shrimp has a pretty dark spot right around the middle of its body. Is this normal? I took a picture of each best I could to compare them. Second picture is the shrimp I am referring to.

Their bodies are translucent. If it is inside the body, then it is their stomach contents. If it is on the surface of their carapace, then it is an infection. I think the infection is commonly referred to as black spot disease. It can grow out with molting but otherwise can be fatal from what I have read. Let us know which it is as it is too difficult to tell from the picture.

Well I haven’t found the shrimp since I went to bed Wednesday evening. I understand it could be molting but I would have thought I would have seen it by now even if it was. If I don’t find it by tomorrow I will assume it was the disease. Which is a shame since I bought it on line
