Does anyone know what these black spots are that have showed up on my tang that is in QT. Tomorrow will be day 21 in 2.5 Copper Power, and they have been doing great, eating super well no sign of disease until this appear this morning. He is still behaving normally. No sign of disease on the blue tang that is also in QT with him. I’ve noticed he’s been turning sideways and scraping his body against the pvc pipes I have in their, but note there are also dark spots on his tail so I’m concerned these aren’t scrapes. I was about to do a Ruby Reef Rally bath today while I change out the qt water and then start dosing metro in addition to the Cu2+. Anything I should do instead/in addition to?

depending on what it is, yes you should dose something else or do a freshwater dunk

this is not something you take a fish and throw into freshwater which can impose stress. This is secondary bacterial and may stem from water quality issue, sting from coral or injury.
Fish will need to be placed in Quarantine and treated with seachem kanaplex. Maintain water quality and monitor with reliable ammonia test kit and increase aeration with air stone
Is fish currently eating?
Is breathing normal or labored?

Metro overlaps with copper, so skip that. Ruby Reef also isn’t indicated here.
I think the scraping and the skin lesions are due to flukes - you should treat with Prazipro as part of the quarantine. I think you can back off the copper to 2.0 for now, then dose Prazipro twice, 8 or 9 days apart, with good aeration.

Thank you Jay. I started treating with Prazipro on 3-6 per your suggestion, it is now 3-8 and the discoloration has already faded substantially. After the 2nd dose of Prazipro, how many days would you recommend I continue QT, at that point they will have been in QT for 30 days in Copper, so the limiting step will be this fluke treatment in my mind.

I generally hold a fish for 14 days with no treatment after everything is concluded, just to try and ensure no parasites slipped through. The only time I cut it shorter is if the fish are not stable in the QT - tank is too small, or they aren't feeding well, etc.
