Blimpy's 300G Shallow

Well on 7/27 Blimpy's 300G has now been taken down looking for a new home. Spent this past weekend swapping everything over to the new( to me) redsea s1000.

Everything is running and fish are happy, glad to have sand back in the system and a glass tank.

will be starting a new Build Thread with more updates and lots more pictures hopefully. Maybe it will get more traction then this build thread.

this tank was a whole lot of headaches. made me remember why i hated acrylic and why i passed on my brothers 480G he offered me and went with the redsea s1000

That's too funny because I prefer acrylic and especially so for larger builds.

I will say, the 300G was a 15 year old Truvu 96x30x24 and if I remember was only 3/8 acrylic. So it bowed a bit. It was scratched badly when I got it and spent 3 weeks sanding a polishing.

I loved the footprint. But it was never meant to be my reef tank. it was originally purchased to be a tank to setup for a shark and Ray in my back room/ man cave.

My 125 mixed reef was going to be in the family room and be the pretty tank. But when we moved, the house needed a lot more then we initially thought and my wife and I decided to nix the ray/shark tank and do the mixed reef in the 300and sell the 125. I was okay with it but it just never got there.

then the bulkhead leak and to fix that the tank had to come down. So we opted to find a "nicer" looking tank for the family room when I came upon the deal for the s1000

I would do acrylic again. especially in a big tank. I may still take my brother up on his 480G (96x36x30 )one day. its currently a freshwater tank with lots of goldfish. It had 2 large red ear sliders but they now live in my pond out back

3/8 is awfully thin. Never was much of a fan of Tenecor. Some people have loved them though. To each their own.

For me, there is no way I would do anything over 200 in anything but acrylic. That footprint on the 480 is killer!

sorry just did the math. its a 450. yes it is.

I actually was collecting equipment to set it up about a year ago. Had about 400 lbs of dry rock and 300 lbs of cleaned sand plus the 150 lbs rock in my current system, was going to run the 125g sump from the 300G.

And at that point probably go back to halides or do solar tubes with LED supplemental lighting. anyways...one day maybe
