My blue spotted jaw fish which I just added to an isolation tank last night has developed a white patch overnight. Wasnt there where did the acclimation.

Given that it suddenly appeared overnight I am wondering if I should treat with anything specific. There is another clown fish in the tank which has been doing fine. The jaw fish was added after a hydroplex dip.

Whatever i do will like be dosing the medication to the tank as i have no other livestock in there that i need to save.
Have kanaplex, metroplex, prazi, and ruby reef rally pro on hand

I'm not too great at identifying fish diseases so take my words with a grain of salt but it may be BSJ disease which can be treated by cranking the temp down to low 70s (lower temp can reduce metabolic stress and slows infection for them) and using kanaplex and metroplex
are there any other symptoms?

I agree these particular species don't do well in our regular warm water tanks and need to be kept below 70F to thrive. Also, neither of the medications mentioned above (Metroplex and Kanaplex) is reef safe, so treatment would need to be done in a separate hospital tank. However, I strongly recommend waiting for fish medics to weigh in first before starting any medications.

It is already in a hospital tank with just one other fish, but has sand. So not worried about any livestock loss. To the extent there is something that can help I am fine dosing it.

Kanaplex is not reef safe and metro should be applied by weight and precisely and used if only absolutely necessary. Ruby Rally Pro is very safe to use and reef safe, just takes a little longer or else Seachem neoplex in a separate treatment tank

Based on the pics though does the fish look like it needs intervention? It’s been in there for less than a day i.e. any down sides to treating with RRR pro? It is an isolation tank with nothing but one other clownfish

Does the fish look like it needs intervention though? It’s been in that isolation tank for less than a day. Only one other clownfish for company, no inverts either.

OK to do RRR pro treatment proactively?

That does look like what people call BSJ disease. I’ve never had to deal with it directly. People rarely report being able to resolve this. I feel that it is a combination of gram negative bacteria arising from environmental problems (high temperatures, shipping damage, being held in tanks with no burrows). Because of the environmental cause(s), just treating with antibiotics doesn’t seem to work.

Yes but often does not resolve the issue

Shudder! FWIW it is eating (frozen mysis), and moving around sand to get a burrow in place. It is breathing normally and does not seem stressed and hiding.

Have turned the temp down to 75 for now. Not sure if there is anything I could try. Not inclined to dump in RRR pro if it is not likely to help.

Separately, BSJ won’t hop over to the clownfish would it?

Ok quick update. The patches disappeared over the next couple days. The fish is eating both mysis and flakes now, has found a nice little home in the isolation tank as well. So my guess is that the fish sat squarely on an aiptasia on night one and got stung badly…the marks were quite symmetrical…Will never be able to confirm but it is not there anymore.

However, I noticed today that there seems to be a bruise next to its right gill. It is breathing normally and have not seen any signs of aggression. It continues to have an appetite, but does not look good.

Thoughts on any medication to try out?

Keep an eye on bruised area for healing and get rid of that aptasia, A sting leave s a mark but often heals. If it gets worse, plan to treat with Seachem Neoplex in a separate tank or container

The fish looks pretty good, that must not have been BSJD!

I would just watch this for now - treating would require moving the fish to a hospital tank, and jawfish just don’t handle that well.

If he's eating I wouldn't worry about it. Alot of times these marks are them scratching or hitting themselves on something in there darting behaviors. If your really concerned could hit him with a round of general cure which I find to not be very harsh and eliminate a lot of disease issues
